Also kekomi 蹴込, kekomi-ita 蹴込板 or *kehanashi 蹴放. A riser. The rise or height between steps. The recommended proportions of riser to tread are either 15 cm riser for every 30 cm tread or 18 cm riser for every 24 cm tread. In the shinmei style of architecture *shinmei-zukuri 神明造, the riser and tread *fumizura 踏面 or dan-ita 段板 usually have the same dimensions. In shrine architecture thick, heavy, single timbers fulfill the function of both tread and riser.
