Also sometimes read kashouza. A lotus-leaf, kayou ‰Χ—t dais for a Buddhist image *daiza ‘δΐ, made in the form of down-turned lotus leaves forming a round mound with up-turned edges. The kayouza is generally used for images of *ten “V (heavenly beings), such as *Daikokuten ‘单“V, *Bonten ž“V, *Taishakuten ’ιŽί“V, *Benzaiten •ΩΛ“V and *Kichijouten ‹gΛ“V. This type of base was brought to Japan with Esoteric Buddhism mikkyou –§‹³ in the 9c. The Kamakura images of Kichijouten and Zennishi Douji ‘PδVŽt“ΆŽq from Sekkeiji αζόŽ› in Kouchi prefecture, by the sculptor Tankei ’XŒc (ca 1225) have fine examples of this pedestal .
