1　A form of concertina-folded book *orihon 折本. 2　Abbreviation of houjou 法帖 the living quarters of the chief priest in Zen Buddhist temples. 3　A unit for counting sheets of paper and other flat materials. One jou is 48 sheets of *minogami 美濃紙, 20 sheets of *hanshi 半紙, and 10 sheets of dried laver nori 糊. 4　Also written 畳. A unit used to count folding screens *byoubu 屏風 before the 14c, when screens began to be counted in pairs sou 双.
