jinuki 地貫

Also called shimonuki 下貫. A penetrating tie beam at the base of a pillar or a tie beam beneath a building's flooring. A tie beam placed on ground level, thought to have originated with the introduction of Zen style architecture *zenshuuyou 禅宗様.
