gamamushiro tenjou　蒲蓆天井

Also called gamatenjou 蒲天井. A wood-board ceiling to which reed-mace, braided straw or rush mats are attached. The matting is set in wooden frames laid parallel and held together at wide intervals by cord. It is mainly used on a dropped ceiling *ochitenjou 落天井, above the host's mat *temaedatami 点前畳, in small tea ceremony rooms with a rustic appearance *souan 草庵. Example: Fushin'an 不審庵 Omotesenke 表千家, Kyoto.
