KEY WORD : architecture / gardens

Lit. Fuji shape. A common type of *shizenseki chouzubachi 自然石手水鉢, end of veranda water basin, in which the pyramidal shape of the natural stone suggests the volcanic cone of Mt. Fuji. The waterpool *mizuana 水穴 is made in the very top of the stone. The best example, a basin supposedly favored by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu 足利義満 (1358-1408), is found at the Sekkatei 夕佳亭 at Kinkakuji 金閣寺 (Rokuonji 鹿苑寺) in Kyoto.
