chuuhon 中本

Lit. a middle-size book. A woodblock printed book, popular during the Edo period, which is one-half the size of a minobon 美濃本 (approximately 200 x 280mm), or halfway between the minobon and a kohon 小本 (a half *hanshi 半紙 book which is about 165 x 235mm). There is also a smaller version of the hanshi book size *yomihon 読本 which is called chuuhon. Chuuhon can also indicate *ninjoubon 人情本 and *kokkeibon 滑稽本, as they are also made in this size.
