Also called *kikuza 菊座.
A metal washer used for any piece of metal that projects. One example, is a nail that has an extended hook for holding a flower basket. The washer is really a guard to prevent the nail from being inserted past the desired depth. They are widely used in tea architecture chakenchiku 茶建築. Washers are also used as nail head covers, bosses *kugikakushi 釘隠 and especially bosses that cover the large nails used on the non-penetrating tie beams *nageshi 長押.
