yosegi 寄木

1 The upper horizontal timber, yosegi 寄木, in a transom, called *take-no-fushi ranma 竹の節欄間. The timber is attached to posts exactly where rings have been carved to resemble bamboo joints.

2 The combination of wood of various grains, colors or textures to create decorative patterns for wooden floors, wainscoting, parquetry, etc.
