Also written ‰J‘Ε‘’. A style of architecture that employs pent roof. A common 13-19c expression for *mokoshi ΦŠK, a pent roof attached under the eaves *noki Œ¬, marking the main stories of a pagoda. The space under the pent roof is called yuta-no-ma α‘Ε‚ΜŠΤ. One such example is found on Yakushiji Toutou –ςŽtŽ›“Œ“ƒ (early 8c) in Nara. The pillars holding the outer edges of the pent roof are called yutabashira α‘Ε’Œ, and are erected at the outer boundary of the pent roof space. Many temple halls, for example *hondou –{“°, *butsuden •§“a, or gates *sanmon ŽO–ε, also have a pent roof.
