In ancient times called fukukai •š”q; ippukuhai ˆκ•š”q. The worship of a god that is enshrined at a distant place. It is not necessary to have a building for the god's spirit. Sometimes a temporary structure is erected at an appropriate place, but more often a gate-like structure *torii ’Ή‹, marks the location from which to pray to the god enshrined far away.
