Also called okuriari ‘—‹a. A right angle joint *shiguchi ŽdŒϋ used to suspend a strut tsurizuka ’έ‘©. It is made with a dovetail tenon *arihozo ‹a‚Ω‚Ό and is cut across the grain of a timber. The member to which it is joined has a dovetail-shaped mortise arihozoana ‹a‚Ω‚ΌŒŠ and a sliding space nigeana “¦ŒŠ carved out so that when the dovetail tenon is inserted, it can be shoved into the dovetail-shaped mortise. Coffer frames *goubuchi Ši‰ for ceilings, a lintel or top part of door, a window frame *kamoi Š›‹, or regular frames *kamachi žy are secured or tightened by using this type of joint.
