yoroido 鎧戸

Also called gararido がらり戸. The horizontal, louver boards yoroi-ita 鎧板, of a door that run parallel to each other and are inserted into the door stiles tategamachi 竪框. The lower most boards can be adjusted to deflect rain, provide ventilation and sun, and ensure privacy. Louvered doors can be made to slide on a track and be housed in a storage box like more traditional rain shutters *amado 雨戸. Yoroimado 鎧窓 are windows that can also be louvered.
