A frame constructed around the perimeter of a window or doorway; the opening into which sliding panels are set and other structural elements to give a finished appearance. It refers to ceiling molding, base boards and vertical molding placed in the corners of a room or a frame that defines an alcove *tokonoma 床の間. Material for frames may be bamboo or slender strips of wood.
