2@A final coat of color which is applied near the end of the process of making a Japanese painting. The pigment applied contains less bonding agent *nikawa δP than the undercoats and protects the surface as it colors. As it is applied the pigment brightens and enlivens the undercoats and encourages the special beauty of the color to come out.
