usushikii 薄敷居

Lit. thin sills. A lintel and sill used under and above transom *ranma 欄間. They are thinner and narrower compared to the usual framework of sliding screens. The sill is 8/10 the height of the framework, uchinori kamoi 内法鴨居, and 3/10 of the width of the vertical strut separating each transom. These struts are chamfered so that they fit the width allowed for tracks needed for double or single sliding screens or for inserting a stationary one.
