ushiroya chuumon 後屋中門

A rear wing which extends from the main structure of a folk dwelling *minka 民家, in the Izumo 出雲 area of Shimane prefecture during the Edo period. Originally a grain storage area called ushiroya 後屋, *chuumon 中門 or nezumi-irazu 鼠入らず it to eradicate rodents, the extended wing came to be used for sleeping and/or clothes storage.
