tsukedoko 付床
KEY WORD : architecture / tea houses
 
A wooden platform, about 95cm x 45cm, attached to a wall to form a type of alcove which has no ceiling or extended wall panel. It is usually not permanently attached to the wall and can be easily removed. It is used in informal style rooms, *shoin-zukuri 書院造 or in small tea ceremony rooms such as *tokonoma 床の間.
