Lit. vertical post shrine fence. Also called kakutamagaki Šp‹ΚŠ_ (square shrine fence) or *kakugoushi tamagaki ŠpŠiŽq‹ΚŠ_. A fence with squared and pointed pickets. The pickets are strengthened and held in place by two rows of horizontal rails at the top and bottom of the fence. Originally the character used for higo βά referred to small strips of split bamboo, but later it referred to square posts as well.
