takigumi-ishi　滝組石

Lit. waterfall stone arrangement. A type of stone arrangement used for garden waterfalls. Also pronounced taki-iwagumi 滝石組, the stones may form the foundation of a real waterfall *shoutoku-no-taki 生得の滝 or may symbolize a dry waterfall *karetaki 枯滝. Basic types of taikigumi-ishi include the dragon's gate cascade *ryuumonbaku 竜門瀑, cloth cascade style bakufushiki 瀑布式 ; one-step fall ichidan-ochi 一段落, two-step fall nidan-ochi 二段落, three-step fall sandan-ochi 三段落 and cloth falls nuno-ochi 布落. The most commonly used stones in takigumi-ishi are: mizuochi-ishi 水落石, used at the top of the waterfall; takizoe-ishi 滝添石, placed near the mizuochi-ishi ; and taki chuushinseki 滝中心石, a large, standing stone placed by the takizoe-ishi; and mizuwake-ishi 水分石, placed at the bottom of the fall to divide the water into two streams.
