The point where two downward slopig roofs meet to form a vally, under which gutters must be set to carry off rain water. Examples are found on Usa Jinguu Honden ‰F²_‹{–{“a (1854-1861) in Ooita prefecture, and in Nara, at Toudaiji *Hokkedou “Œ‘εŽ›–@‰Ψ“° also called Sangatsudou ŽOŒŽ“°, erected in 748 with the Raidou —η“° added in the Kamakura period (1199).
A valley was formed when the latter building was attached and a raingutter added to carry off water that formed when the two buildings were joined.
