tesuri 手摺
KEY WORD : architecture / general terms

A balustrade along a stairway or surrounding a shallow balcony on a high gate *roumon 楼門. Originally, the term referred to the top rail or banister of a balustrade only. Now the top rail is called tesuri kasagi 手摺笠木, especially when it serves as a handrail for balusters that support the top rail. The balusters are called tesuriko 手摺子 or tesurizuka 手摺束.
