Also read tarukigake. A horizontal timber attached to the posts of an exterior wall to support the undersides of the inner ends of rafters on a lean-to roof *sashikake 差掛. Example include *kasuga-zukuri 春日造; shrine building shaden 社殿, and step canopy *kouhai 向拝.
