tarukidake 垂木竹

Bamboo rafters that span from the ridge *munagi 棟木 to the eave ends *nokisaki 軒先 over bamboo purlins called *yanakadake 屋中竹. These purlins are about 10cm in diameter and are placed 36cm apart. Either ditch reed or bamboo sudake 簀竹, about 9cm in diameter .are laid over the rafters. This creates a sturdy base on which to pile the thatch.
