Lit. Tanba stone. A type of granite from the Kameoka ‹T‰ͺ region, northwest of Kyoto. High in iron, it is used for pavements *shiki-ishi •~Ξ, stepping stones *tobi-ishi ”ςΞ, and shoe-removing stones *kutsunugi-ishi ŒB’EΞ. Tanba-ishi also refers to a type of andesite frequently used for paving. Also called tanba teppeiseki ’O”g“S•½Ξ.
