sutebori　捨堀

Moats dug in open areas　some distance from a castle, to hinder the advance of enemy forces. Sutebori were generally scattered between 100 and 200 meters from the castle, 30 to 50 meters in length, 4 to 6 meters deep, and 7 to 9 meters wide.
