suneate 脛当

Also suneate 臑当. A piece of leather or metal armor used to protect the shin. Used since the Kofun period, and originally known as ashimaki 足纏. Early examples covered only the shin, but in the 14c a raised attachment tateage 立挙 was added to protect the kneecap.
