shiguregaki 時雨垣
KEY WORD : architecture / gardens

Lit. drizzle fence. A type of fence in which bunches of bamboo and bushclover are secured by the top bar of a fence so as to extend over the sides of the fence. The design resembles a straw raincoat, but it differs from the minogaki 簑垣 or "straw raincoat fence" in that the branches are turned up and there is a ground sill.
