saya-e 鞘絵

A picture which is incomprehensible when viewed with the naked eye but which appears in normal proportions when viewed through a curved mirror or on a curved sword case (saya 鞘). Appears in various written sources in the latter half of the 18c. Probably inspired by pictures imported from the West.
