shougon 荘厳

The ornamentation of a Buddhist hall. A Buddhist statue made in a dignified and beautiful style by adding features such as a canopy *tengai 天蓋, decorative streamers, douban どう幡, and strings of jewels *youraku 瓔珞. The decorations the decorated hall or the statue itself may be referred to as shougon.
