shingeta 真桁

1 A purlin that is placed directly across the tops of pillars *hashira 柱 to carry the rafters *taruki 垂木.

2 When buildings have bracket complexes supporting the eaves *noki 軒, the shingeta is the horizontal beam placed between the purlin *moyageta 母屋桁, which is an integral part of the roof framing, and the rafter plate *gagyou 丸桁.
