shakushihozo 杓子ほぞ

Lit. dipper or ladle tenon. A flat tenon *hozo ほぞ that is attached to the end of a beam at an upward angle of about 45 degrees. It is used to join rafters *taruki 垂木 to eave purlins *nokigeta 軒桁, exposed ridges *keshou munagi 化粧棟木 or exposed purlins *moyageta 母屋桁.
