sanja-zukuri  三社造

Also called sangenyashiro or sangensha 三間社. A type of Shinto shrine. The main building *honden 本殿, is usually 3×2 bays, and sometimes 3×1 bays, with a gabled roof *kirizuma-zukuri 切妻造. One example is Kamitani Jinja Honden 神谷神社本殿 (1219) in Kagawa prefecture. It is the oldest extant example of the flowing roof style *nagare-zukuri 流造, and has a long deeply curved front roof and a slightly curved short rear roof.
