sabibori サビ彫
KEY WORD : art history / paintings

When woodblocks are being carved to reproduce pages of handwritten characters, sometimes the point of a small knife will be used to carve out tiny areas within the body of each character. When printed these will appear as the white streaks which occur within individual strokes of the brush where the ink has not marked the paper when writing quickly.
