Also called hashirou ‹΄˜L. A covered bridge, often with a resting place at the central point. Roukyou can also be a passageway or corridor that resembles a bridge. It may also span part of a garden or bridge two wings of a building. It sometimes spans a pond and is arched in part or entirely. There are several extant examples: Koudaiji Rousenrou ‚‘δŽ›˜O‘D˜L (17c), which incorporates a moon-viewing stand, tsukimidai ŒŽŒ©‘δ; Higashihonganji Shouseien Kaitourou “Œ–{ŠθŽ›Β¬‰€‰ρž¨˜L (17c); Toufukuji Tsuutenkyou “Œ•ŸŽ›’Κ“V‹΄ (probably a 14c structure, last rebuilt 1951); and Heian Jinguu Higashi Shin-en no Hashidono •½ˆΐ_‹{“Œ_‰‘‚Μ‹΄“a (19c), all in Kyoto.
