A ren is derived from the name given to a two line stanza (unit) called risshi 律詩, an eight line Chinese poem of the Tang dynasty. This type of Chinese poetry couplet has each line written on a separate ren sheet (or board). A set of two ren is then hung symmetrically on pillars inside a house for decoration.|
