okuyuki 奥行

The depth or distance from front to rear of an object, piece of furniture, room, building, plot of land etc. It may be measured in precise dimensions, such as Japanese feet, shaku 尺 or for a room, building or plot of land, in bays *ken 間. In the case of a piece of land, the front is usually defined by the principal adjacent road, although the major point of entry, and the orientation of the building or buildings also exert an influence.
