A pattern drawn on a wall on both sides of a type of post called *kentozuka 間斗束. The pattern is known to have existed since the Nara period. The earliest extant examples date from the early Kamakura period, as for example those found in Houkaiji Amidadou 法界寺阿弥陀堂, Kyoto.
