1 Structural elements arranged in such a way as to resemble the image of hands joined in prayer. The gables on each end of a gable roof *tsuma 妻 or those on each end of a hip-and gable roof *rimoya-zukuri 入母屋造 exemplify this arrangement.

2 Wooden lath used as an embellishment for a wall or door. The lath strips are placed adjacent to one another sloping upward to resemble praying hands. This embellishment is called ogami-uchi 拝打 or arashi-uchi 嵐打. See *gasshou-zukuri 合掌造.
