nakadoma　中土間

An inner earth-floored area found in *nakadoma machiya 中土間町家 associated with post towns *shukubamachi 宿場町. It is a kind of *tooridoma 通り土間, conventionally linking the street front with the rear of the plot, but distinguished by having areas of raised floor living room kyoshitsubu 居室部, on both the upper *kamite 上手 and lower *shimote 下手 side of it.
