mizu-e 水絵

One kind of early polychrome print *benizuri-e 紅摺絵, or woodblock print where ink outlines are not used, or are invisible *mokkotsu 没骨 beneath the color which is applied by hand in light washes of yellow, red or green. This technique appears in prints by Torii Kiyomitsu 鳥居清満 (1725-85), Suzuki Harunobu 鈴木春信 (1725-70) and Kitao Shigemasa 北尾重政 (1739-1820) in the last half of the 18c.
