minonuki 蓑貫

A thick, penetrating tie beam about 6cm wide used to reinforce the doors of storehouses *dozou 土蔵. Minonuki were first used in the construction of vernacular houses *minka 民家, in the environ of Kawagoe 川越 City, Saitama prefecture and then spread to minka throughout the country.
