mekuragoyomi 盲暦

A picture calendar koyomi 暦 totally set out in pictures. Originally these were made for the illiterate, but when they were redesigned as puzzles composed of words or syllables in the form of pictures, their popularity became widespread. Mekuragoyomi originated in the northern part of Japan (Aomori prefecture) and were widely known by the 1780s.
