maruganna 丸鉋

A special type of plane used for paring a curved wooden surface. A sotomaruganna 外丸鉋 is used for paring a concave surface and an uchimaruganna 内丸鉋 for paring a convex surface. The structure of the maruganna is very similar to the smoothing plane *hiraganna 平鉋, except that the sole and cutting edge are concave or convex in shape. The maruganna also is made in a variety of sizes and is used according to the size of the timber to be treated.
