kuruma-ido 車井戸

Lit. pulley well. A general term for wells in which the water is drawn by a bucket and rope attached to a pulley. This practical mechanism, incorporated into some gardens, may be used for wooden or stone wells and often features a gabled roof over the pulley or spindle and handle.
