kujuu-no-tou 九重塔

Also pronounced kyuujuu-no-tou. A 9-storied pagoda. Kudaradaiji 百済大寺 (6-7c) in Nara, and Houshouji 法勝寺 (Heian period) in Kyoto, both had wooden kujuu-no-tou but they no longer exist. The only extant 9-story pagoda built in stone is located at Manganji 満願寺 (1293) in Hyougo prefecture.
