Also tanehon 種本. An author's manuscript which has been made into a mock-up of a printed book. The manuscript is bound into the same general format as the final book and used by the print artist to prepare block copies *hanshita 版下 for the illustrations. Generally, the author only gives rough indications of the composition of each illustration, though sometimes he will add marginal comments in red ink about the personality of the characters, or specify a particular species of bird.
