komochi shouji 子持障子

Two light wooden frames covered with translucent paper *shouji 障子, usually set into a single track, one bay ikken 一間 wide. One screen is wide and moveable while the other is very narrow and normally stationary. When only one track is used, it is called hitosuji komochi shouji 一筋子持障子. If two tracks are made in one bay, this is referred to as futasuji komochi shouji 二筋子持障子. Examples of both types exist in the abbots' quarters at Toufukuji Ryougin'an 東福寺龍吟庵 (1387), Kyoto,
