kiridoguchi 切戸口

Also called kirido 切戸, okubyouguchi 臆病口, wasureguchi 忘れ口. A small wicket entrance with a sliding door placed at the right-rear part of a *nou 能 stage as seen from the audience. It is constructed in the left lowest corner of the side panel and serves as the singers' entrance and exit. Moreover, through it a stagehand can unobstrusively bring a forgotten object to an actor. Actors whose parts require them to die or be injured exit through the kiridoguchi.
