Lit. surplice shape water basins. A stone wash basin *chouzubachi Žθ…”«, made from part of a stone pagoda *houtou •σ“ƒ, the design of which is suggestive of a priest's surplice *kesa ŒUΎ (see *mitatemono chouzubachi Œ©—§•¨Žθ…”«). The basin is made from the cylindrical body *toushin “ƒg, of the pagoda, thus the striped priest's robe pattern kesadasuki ŒUΎŸO, engraved on the body becomes the distinctive feature of the basin. One variety of kesagata is the roketsu type, roketsugata chouzubachi ˜IŒ‹Œ`Žθ…”«, which has the Chinese characters ro ˜I (dew) and ketsu Œ‹ (togather) written on the front side of it. This is said to be the invention of Kobori Enshuu ¬Œ@‰“B (1579-1647) who employed a roketsu kesagata chouzubachi ˜IŒ‹ŒUΎŒ`Žθ…”« in the shoin garden *shoinniwa ‘‰@’λ at Daitokuji Kohouan ‘ε“ΏŽ›ŒΗβɈΑ in Kyoto.
